DIRECTORATE OF BEEKEEPING

The Directorate of Beekeeping was established in 1946 at Mahabaleshwar
 
Main Objectives

  1. To provide self-employment to beekeepers
  2. To undertake Research, Training & Development activities
  3. To provide healthy bee colonies and equipments at  reasonable rates
  4. Purchase of honey, wax and by­product  at guaranteed rates

  1. 75% Loan and 25% subsidy
  2. Free Training for Skill Enhancement
  3. Introducing Master Trainer Concept

 

 

Marathwada Development programme 

 

  1. 20% Loan  & 80% Subsidy
  2. Honey Filtration Plant in Marathwada Region
  3. Incentives for the Master Trainer who trains Bee-keepers & collects Honey on behalf of Board

DISTRICT WISE HONEY PRODUCTION

 

Agriculture plays vital role in Indian economy and 70 % of population Maharashtra depends directly or indirectly on agriculture income. The Agriculture needs to be increased so as to generate more income. Considering this aspect Maharashtra State Khadi and Village Industries Board is promoting Bee-Keeping industry from years together in the state . Honey and Bees are known to the mankind since times immemorial. Honey is a nutritious fluid collected by Honey Bees which is good for human health. Honey is used by mankind since very ancient period as food , medicine etc. Bee-Keeping industry plays important role for addition in Agriculture income through pollenisation. This industry also plays important role to create employment opportunities among the rural mass. The Board is implementing various Govt. programmes so as to promote this industry in the state at large extent.

TARGET UNDER MARATHWADA DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM

 

CURRENT STATUS OF HONEY INDUSTRY IN MARATHWADA REGION

 

ISSUES-

  1. Less response from beneficiaries due to  Thai sac brood viral disease  from 1998 (now disease under control )
  1. Reduction in the rate of subsidy from 50% to 25% with the ceiling of Rs. 10000/- w.e.f. April 2010


The following schemes are being implemented in the State:

  1. Integrated Bee-Keeping, Breeding and Honey Production Scheme (For 12 Districts in Western Ghat)
  2. Marathwada Development Programme (For 8 Districts of Marathwada)
  3. Scheme of ATMA Through Agriculture Department (For all the Districts)

  1. Training
  2. Technical supervision by staff

2) Financial Assistance:

  1. Loan through financial institution
  2. Subsidies from State/Central Govt.
