Maharashtra State Khadi and Village Industries Board established on April 11, 1960, the Bombay Khadi and Village Industries Act, 1960, was enacted as per Act No. 19.
The main function of the board is to provide employment to the needy and unemployed people in the rural areas, also the wide-scale growth of the self-employment sector, encouragement to improve the technical skills of artisans, help in the sale of finished goods, imparting training in village industry, etc. are implemented through the board.
The offices of the board are in total 34 districts of Maharashtra and, according to the account, the Handmade paper Institute Pune, Carpentry & Blacksmiths Workshop Kolhapur, Beekeeping Center Mahabaleshwar are operational. Schemes implemented by the Board are as follows:
• Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Program (PMEGP)
• Chief Minister’s Employment Generation Program (CMEGP)
• Beekeeping Scheme
• Special component scheme
• Artisan Employment Guarantee Scheme
A major feature of the Board’s PMEGP scheme is to support employment growth in rural areas. To provide self-employment opportunities for needy employees and the educated unemployed in rural and urban areas. The main objective of the PMEGP scheme of the Board is to make the youths of the state self-sufficient and independent. Their self-employment projects can be easily established with the financial support of the state government, and around 1 lakh micro and small enterprises will be established in the next five years and through that, a total of 10 lakh employment opportunities will be available in the state. To raise the standard of living of the beneficiaries in all parts of the state by helping them to increase their income from the beekeeping business and to create infrastructure for the development of the honey industry, increase their quality, etc. The main objective of this scheme is to create beekeepers who are engaged in the business of the honey industry on a commercial basis, keeping in mind the requirements of the matter and considering the favourable environment for the development of the honey industry in the state.
